I love running, but at the moment it is pretty much too hot to even go outside (I am in Dubai right now and it's probably 40 something degrees!). I could use a treadmill, but it's just too boring for me. I know there is a TV on the wall, but I don't go running so I can watch CNN you know. Besides I have to concentrate too much trying to run straight on the damn things. They should really make them twice as wide at least.
Nah treadmills aren't for me. I like going places when I run. Travelling somewhere and having a real visual experience. I like to let my mind drift and go wherever my eyes lead me. I take my iPod along with me quite often to add a little soundtrack. On those city runs it's a great way to cut down on the traffic noise too. Plus when you find those songs with that sic banging/driving/energetic running rhythm (power songs as Nike calls them) you find yourself boosting it through the streets. I don't tend to bother as much with my iPod if I go running "in the wild" as music makes me feel like I am trespassing nature in a way. What songs do you listen to when you run?
Anyway, the reason I got started thinking about running was I saw this really cool short film. It was created by British illustrator and designer, James Amos Jarvis, with the support of Nike (more of an equal collaboration than a branding exercise which is cool). Jarvis is an avid runner himself and the film draws on his own personal running experiences, like being attacked by a crow in Singapore. Nice. The film makes me want to get out there and go running. 40 degrees or not. Awesome!
