The greatest drink ever invented

Have you ever tried 100Plus?! If you haven't then you need to find a local Asian food wholesaler and ask them to order you a crate now. This drink is the elixir of life! I got hooked on this isotonic deliciousness when I lived in Singapore. Not only does it taste like a perfect dream, but it is the ultimate cure for a disgusting hangover or a super sweaty sport workout. Make sure it is ice cold though or you won't get this drink's full amazing rejuvenating powers. 100Plus is totally healthy for you too- my Singaporean doctor recommended that I drink at least a couple of cans a day. Excellent advice.

Unfortunately, when I moved from Singapore back to New Zealand for university it took a couple of years for 100Plus to follow me back. In that time I made the silly, hugely regrettable mistake of converting to Powerade. A couple of years drinking that sugar-overloaded concoction (it is made by Coke so what do you expect) and I had to visit the dentist to get my front teeth capped. The suger had slowly dissolved the enamel off the front of my teeth! That was when I finally tracked down 100Plus to a small Asian food wholesaler. What a huge find that was! I quickly got back on track with my drinking and my teeth were saved from future harm.

I think this quote from the 100Plus website sums up the drink's awesomeness:

"Outdo yourself and go beyond the limits of your mind. 100Plus comes in multiple invigorating flavours besides the ever famous Original taste to zap you for the challenges ahead."

I couldn't have said it better. The 100Plus zap is incredible- right my 100Plus people? Sooo good!

Speaking of zap, right now I'm off to drink my second 100Plus can of the day. Fortunately for me, Dubai was already up to speed with its 100Plus distribution and I didn't have to worry about ordering a shipment from Singapore.

Cheers!

I watched the All Blacks beat Australia this weekend (huge game!) and thought I saw a familiar face in the Aussie line up.  It looks like Johnny Drama (star of Entourage) has given up Hollywood, put on a good few pounds and laced up as prop for Australia.  What a crap prop he is too.  Stick to b-grade acting mate!

Tri-Nations time!

I am so stoked with all the rugby lined up over the next couple of months. There's no better way to spend your Saturdays during the summer in Dubai than watching Tri-Nations rugby with a homemade big breakfast (bacon, eggs, hash browns, tomatoes and mushrooms - my girlfriend is the best!) especially if you're nursing a hangover.

Australia and South Africa are both on form and looking rather dangerous this year. The All Blacks will have to step it up a level if they want to defend their Tri-Nations title this year. I reckon we're up for it. A few key big-game players back in the forwards, a backline looking to prove the critics wrong, and Henry and co. out to prove their worth- Sorted!

First up is Australia this Saturday at Eden Park in Auckland, NZ. Bring it on Aussie!

By the way, if you're interested you can find a full list of the fixtures here.

15!

What an epic final!  Finally Roger Federer has finally beaten Pete Sampras' record of 14 Grand Slam titles.  It's about time too.  Now I can finally switch my allegiance to someone else- I miss cheering for the underdog.  I'm just not sure who yet.

Don't get me wrong Rog is a pretty cool guy, but only really because he is so awesome at tennis.  He loses his coolness factor quite quickly when he starts losing matches.  I personally think he just takes himself a bit too seriously.  What is up with his specially designed Wimbledon outfits?!  Poncy.  Bring back denim and highlighter pink spandex!  Whatever it is, Rog is just not the same type of classic entertainer that Agassi and Johnny Mac were- guys who had that can't quite describe cool "attitude".  Maybe Rog would find a bit of that "attitude" if he used his trusty Gillette shaver on those flowing brown locks of his- a number two cut would be a good change I reckon.  I do have to say, though at least his match-winning celebrations were much improved this time around.  There was no sign of his classic bury-my-face-in-both-hands-then-collaspe-to-the-ground-and-roll-over move.  There's hope for him yet.

Seriously though- Rog is an amazing athlete and 15 is a huge effort!  Congratulations Rog!

Twiike!

I found this cool site the other day- it lets you Twitter your Nike+ runs.  I can't wait to test it out, only problem is it's too damn hot to run in Dubai at the moment.  40 plus degrees too hot and getting hotter.  Guess I'll have to wait till the cooler temperatures of October.  The pool isn't quite a warm bath yet. Wonder if a Nike+ swimming equivalent exists?  Just clip it on to your speedos!

A Classic!

A friend of mine just found himself his dream bike- a 1986 Bianchi Superleggera.  I love the Bianchi's traditional colour, celeste, and the vintage brown seat.  I'll have to ask my friend how it rides after all these years.  It looks in pretty good nick.

This is how you tackle!

A security guard at the weekend's match between the All Blacks and France got a little carried away at "securing" the pitch invasioner (is that a word?).  I don't think a Rugby League-style tackle was required on a women who had already given up the chase.  It was nonetheless very entertaining for the crowd!  Nonu looks pretty impressed in the background too.

"She had her hands up in the air, saying 'OK the game is up', but he just kept sprinting across and smashed her with a big rugby league-style tackle."

I wish broadcasters would stop purposely trying not to show pitch invasions.  I know it is supposed to discourage spectators from misbehaving, but can it really stop a bit of adrenaline, a few beers and the roaring approval of a 35,000 strong crowd?  Plus it is so entertaining watching fat security guards chase speedy spectators around the field.

A F*%K'NG DISGRACE!

No I'm not talking about Didier Drogba's behaviour after last night's Champions League semi-final between Chelsea vs Barcelona (I'll touch on that later), but rather the performance of the match's Norwegian ref.  Yeah refs are human and yeah they make mistakes, but way too many were made last night for such a high profile and important match.  Everyone who watched the match has to admit that at least one penalty appeal, maybe as many as 5 if you're a Chelsea fan, should have been given.  If you don't agree you don't understand football.  Come on be honest Chelsea haters.  I'll be the first to admit the red card on Eric Abidal was a complete joke, he should have been sent off in the first half hahaha.
Now I'm not writing this to debate whether the ref cost Chelsea the game.  I am a Chelsea fan so my opinion is obvious.  I simply want to raise a couple of questions that I think UEFA's Michel Platini and his continental cronies need to answer.
First of all what the hell was a Norwegian ref doing on the field to start with?!  Maybe the gold watch and house in the south of France had nothing to do with Platini's anti-English football conspiracy.  The ref does look a bit like the great bald-headed Italian ref Pierluigi Collina- from behind at least.  Maybe that's what got him the job.  I have nothing against Norway but their domestic teams are definitely not part of the first division European scene yet.  The big-money, world-wide audience levels of pressure found in England, Spain, Italy, Germany, etc just don't exist there.  The Champions League is the showcase tournament of Europe's top football clubs and so it should be for Europe's top refs.  I'm not saying stop Norwegian refs from refereeing in the earlier rounds, that's fine with me.  I'm just saying that until a Norwegian team can even make semi-finals of the Champions League their refs have no reason to be there.
That brings me to my second question.  Why can't football finally embrace instant replays like most sports have been doing for years?  I mean come on this is the most popular sport in the world we're talking about.  Matches like this just have too much riding on them to rely solely on the eyesight of three guys Norwegian or otherwise.  The argument of time-wasting no longer applies as technology allows decisions to be made within seconds.  Besides, given the amount of time players spend moaning to the ref and rolling around feigning injury I bet replays would actually make the game flow faster.  Throw a TV in front of a fifth official hidden away in a secret room somewhere (the fourth is busy enough with substitutions and time-keeping- ha) and there you go.  The offsides rule might be a bit too complicated for football's technophobic governing bodies to begin with, but surely they can give the ref some help with goal-line and penalty decisions.  The sad thing is the big egos in charge think an extra ref behind each goal will make for less controversy.  Idiots.
Alright so that's my rant.  Now for Drogba's behaviour.

I'm sure there are a lot of people hating on Drogba right now, but give the guy a break.  Did he get in the ref's face?  Yeah.  Did he swear?  Yeah.  Big deal what's new in football.  Like Gus Hiddink touched on in his post-match interview- the pressure last night was intense, the adrenalin was pumping and the emotions were raw.  Drogba overreacted, but he didn't touch the ref.  Spare a thought for the baggage the man carries as well: four semi-final losses in the last six years, a sending off in the final's loss last year, easy chances gone begging in each leg of this year's semi-final, at least two blatant penalties waved away in last night's match.  Yeah most of it is his own making, but it's still baggage.  Why not leave some of it on the field?
I am a huge Drogba fan, but I'll admit his on-field antics are a bad look.  I wish he would stay on his feet more.  What can you do though?  Play-acting is sadly a part of modern football.  Hopefully Drogba will finally learn his lesson the hard way when he realizes that probably at least two minutes of last night's injury time can be attributed to him.  Then again maybe he will never learn his lesson.  Yet who can blame him- the world's best player, as voted by sport journalists, is worse than he is.
Well I think that's quite enough, but let me finish with this thought.  People should not expect football players to be the moral meter sticks for society (that job's already been taken by Rugby League players).  Football players get paid crazy amounts of money to play football and entertain us- that's it.  We expect perfection from them on the field.  Let's not get carried away with asking them for lessons in morality as well.  That's expecting too much.  Face it- football is entertainment and they are simply entertainers.  Last night's match showed that it's hard to beat the beautiful game when it comes to entertainment- awful ref, dives and verbal abuse included.
